The Santa Cruz Small Craft Harbor (popularly called the Yacht Harbor) was built in 1964 on the site of Woods Lagoon. It is home to hundreds of boats from tiny Hobee Cats and dingies up to ocean-going sailing ships and commercial fishing boats. It also claims to be the Gateway to the Monterey Bay National Marine Sanctuary.
You can walk the two-mile paved path around the harbor by yourself (there are 12 interpretive signs) or call (408) 475-6161 to arrange for a free docent tour. The harbor also has an office of Save Our Shores, crammed to overflowing with useful information about marine ecology and the local environment.
